Viking Age Migration

Welcome to our Resource for Schools on Viking Age Migration

Cross-disciplinary Studies of Migration of
Irish, Hiberno-Norse and other Gaelic-speaking populations in the Viking Age.

This website is designed to provide schools in Ireland and Britain with the most up-to-date information available on Viking settlers in Ireland and their origins.

It represents one of the outreach initiatives of a jointly funded IRCHSS/AHRC network designed to examine the multi-stranded evidence for migration and communication in the North Atlantic region during the Viking age.

The resources have been written and designed by third-level academics working in the field of Viking and Irish medieval studies. We hope that they will prove useful to our colleagues in other branches of the teaching profession but we are very conscious that they come out of our own experiences. In making them freely available to all for comment, discussion and use, our intention has been to benefit from the feedback given to us and we will be undergoing an assessment exercise at the end of a year to reflect on how these resources can be improved. We would like, therefore, to express our gratitude in advance to all those who contact us with suggestions for improvements and ideas about other topics for inclusion.
